The Greater Noida Property has prepared a draft policy on methods to deal with waste generated in city. The authority has sought feedback from the general public on its draft.
The draft policy outline the measures to be taken by the authority to deal with all kinds of waste, including sewer, medical, and construction, among others. It all defines the role of all stakeholders such as residents and social organisations and the health, urban toen planning and enforcement departments, among others. For drawing up the initial blue prints, the authority had roped in a consultant, KPMG.
''We are likely to issue a public notice on our websites and other mediums inviting objections from the general public so that anyone, who is interested, can submit their suggestions with regard to the provisions of policy on waste. We want to make an effective policy so that the issue of poor waste treatment gets resolved scientifically, ''Narendra Bhooshan, chief exwcutive officer of Greater Noida Authority, said.
Official said the provisions in the policy have been drafted as per the waste(management and handling) rules, 2016, notified by the central government, to deal with waste mangement across the country.
''We have drafted this policy in consonance with the 2016 rules. After making changes incorporating suggestions or objections.we will take up this draft in the board meeting after May 23 for a discussion. Once it is approved in the board meeting, the authority will workaccording to this policy,''Bhooshan said.
On April 30, the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has imposed a fine of ₹2 crore against the Greater Noida authority of dumping waste onto a piece of land reserved for botanical and zoological park. The UPPCB secretary had also directed the authority to expedite developmental work at the Astoli landfill site, which is spread over 126 acres.
''Once our policy gets approved.we will hire private agencies which will be engaged in treatment of the waste. Our policy also outlines how the landfill at Astoli is to be used. The authority will start treating waste at Astoli landfill soon. Also,we have plans to make compost out of green waste at different locations,''Bhooshan said.
